Why We No Longer Feature Moissanite in Our Collection (and What We Recommend Instead)

Still available by request - but here’s why lab-grown diamonds are our top recommendation.

At one point, moissanite was a core part of our engagement ring offerings - and we understand why so many couples love it. Moissanite is an affordable, eye-catching stone that offers plenty of sparkle. But over the years, we’ve seen how it holds up with daily wear, how it performs next to diamond wedding bands - and how the price gap between moissanite and lab-grown diamonds has shifted.

Ultimately, we made the decision to remove moissanite from our in-house collection in order to offer higher-quality, longer-lasting stones that align with our values and your long-term satisfaction.

Why We're Moving Away from Moissanite

While moissanite looks brilliant when new, it simply isn’t as durable as diamond - natural or lab-grown. Over time, we've seen moissanite center stones become scratched or dulled from everyday wear. One of the most common concerns we’ve encountered is what happens when a moissanite engagement ring is worn alongside a diamond wedding band.

Diamond is the hardest material on Earth - and when it’s set next to moissanite, it can wear into the underside of the moissanite, leaving abrasions that create a cloudy or foggy appearance. This type of wear can’t be polished out, and understandably, it leaves clients disappointed - especially when they expected their stone to last a lifetime.

The other major shift we’ve seen is price. A few years ago, moissanite offered significant savings. But today, lab-grown diamonds are often only a few hundred dollars more than moissanite - especially at popular carat sizes. Given the improved affordability and the superior durability, we believe lab-grown diamonds offer much greater long-term value and satisfaction for nearly the same cost.

We want every ring we make to wear beautifully, look stunning for decades, and live up to the emotions behind it. And when it comes down to quality, resilience, and sparkle - lab-grown diamonds simply outperform.

What We Recommend Instead: Lab-Grown Diamonds

For clients seeking an ethical, affordable, and lasting alternative to mined diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are our top recommendation.

  • Chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds

  • Exceptionally durable for daily wear

  • Ethically sourced with a lower environmental impact

  • Available in a wide range of cuts, carat sizes, and price points

  • Often just a few hundred dollars more than moissanite - a small difference for a major upgrade in quality and longevity

Lab-grown diamonds also offer the classic, white brilliance most clients envision when shopping for an engagement ring. Unlike moissanite, they don’t have the same fire-heavy “rainbow” effect and won’t become scratched with everyday wear.

What to Consider When Choosing a Center Stone

When selecting a center stone, consider:

  • Durability -  especially if you plan to wear your ring every day

  • How you’ll stack it - pairing a moissanite with a diamond band can lead to damage

  • What kind of sparkle you love - bold and fiery or classic and clean

  • Your long-term goals - especially if you want an heirloom-quality piece

  • Budget - and what offers the most value for your investment

  • Color - what shade of stone you want to be your focal point

We’re here to walk you through those decisions with transparency and care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you still offer moissanite?
Yes, moissanite is still available by special request for signature or custom designs. We’ll help you weigh the pros and cons and ensure the design is set up to reduce potential wear issues.

Why did you stop featuring moissanite in your collection?
We’ve seen moissanite scratch or wear down over time, especially when paired with diamond bands. Combined with the narrowing price gap between moissanite and lab-grown diamonds, we believe lab-grown is the better long-term choice for most clients.

What is the best alternative to moissanite?
Lab-grown diamonds. They’re durable, ethical, and now nearly as affordable as moissanite - making them the best value and performance option available.

Will moissanite get cloudy over time?
It doesn’t discolor, but it can develop visible scratches, especially on the underside if worn with diamond bands. This wear can make the stone look hazy or less brilliant.
