Curate
Select your perfect center stone with expert guidance.
We'll source a curated selection of ethically sourced diamonds or gemstones based on your design, budget, and priorities. Compare your options with guidance from our diamond experts until you find the perfect fit.

- Center stones are quoted separately from your setting

Step 3
Design
Review CAD renderings and refine every detail.
Once you're ready to move forward, a 50% deposit begins the design process. We'll transform your ideas into detailed CAD renderings and refine every detail together before production begins.

- Request revisions and refinements

Need to Know
- Initial CAD renderings are typically delivered within 3–5 business days
- Each CAD set typically includes four to five views of the design
- Your project includes one initial CAD set and up to two revision rounds, for a maximum of three render sets.
- Additional revision rounds are uncommon and begin at $250
- The design deposit is non-refundable
Typical Timeline
Approximately 1–2 weeks depending on revisions.
Step 4
Craft
Your ring is handcrafted in Boston.
Your ring is made-to-order by our master jewelers in Boston.
After your final approval and remaining balance are received, our jewelers begin crafting your custom piece using recycled precious metals and ethically sourced materials.
What to Expect
- Complete your remaining balance
- Your ring enters production
- Your center stone and accent stones are individually set and finished by experienced jewelers.
- Every detail is polished and quality inspected
- Your finished ring is prepared for pickup or shipping
Need to Know
- Production begins after final payment and design approval
- Cosmetic design changes cannot be made once production starts
- Every ring is created within 15 miles of our Boston showroom

Before You Begin
We've designed our custom process to be collaborative, transparent, and predictable. Below are a few important details to help you understand what to expect before starting your project.
Pricing & Quotes
Every custom project begins with a personalized quote based on your design, materials, and craftsmanship. Your quote includes the custom setting, labor, and any accent diamonds or gemstones. Center stones are quoted separately.
Typical Starting Prices
- Wedding bands begin at $2,000
- Engagement ring settings begin at $3,200
- Most custom engagement rings range between $3,600–$5,600 before the center stone
Your approved quote is based on the agreed design specifications. Changes to materials, metal weight, stone selection, or design complexity may require an updated quote, which we will review with you before proceeding.
Payment Schedule
Custom projects are paid in two stages.
- 50% non-refundable design deposit to begin the design process
- Remaining balance due after final design approval and before production begins
Any additional CAD revisions beyond those included, added gemstones, or requested design changes will be reflected in your final invoice.
CAD Design & Revisions
Your design deposit includes professional CAD renderings created specifically for your project.
You'll receive your initial CAD renderings (showing four to five views) normally within 3–5 business days of placing your deposit.
Your project includes:
- Initial CAD renderings
- Two rounds of design revisions
- Up to three total sets of CAD renderings
Common revisions include:
- Fine-tuning band width or taper
- Refining prong style
- Adjusting the scale or placement of accent stones
- Reviewing setting height and profile
Changes that introduce a substantially different design direction may require a new quote or additional design fee. Additional CAD revision rounds begin at $250.
Production & Timeline
Most custom projects are completed within 8–10 weeks, depending on design complexity and the speed of client approvals.
Once your final design has been approved and your remaining balance has been received, production begins.
Production typically requires approximately six weeks.
After production begins, cosmetic design changes can no longer be made. Any modifications after this point are limited to structural adjustments or unexpected setting requirements identified during fabrication.
Your Role in the Process
Creating a custom piece is a collaborative experience.
To keep your project on schedule, we ask that design feedback, approvals, and payments are completed within approximately four weeks of beginning the design process.
Projects that remain inactive for more than 90 days after the initial deposit will be considered abandoned. Design deposits for abandoned projects are retained to cover the work completed and cannot be transferred to a new design.
Family Heirlooms & Client-Owned Materials
To ensure the structural integrity and quality of every finished piece, we are unable to work with client-provided diamonds, gemstones, precious metals, or other materials.
All center stones used in our custom designs are sourced through Laura Preshong and carefully selected to meet our quality and ethical sourcing standards.
Intellectual Property
Every custom design - including sketches, CAD renderings, and digital design files—is created exclusively for production by Laura Preshong Ethical Fine Jewelry.
All custom designs remain the intellectual property of Laura Preshong Ethical Fine Jewelry LLC and are not released for outside manufacturing.
Our Deposit Policy
Custom design deposits are non-refundable and cover the design consultation, CAD development, and work performed on your behalf.
Completed custom projects, abandoned projects, and significantly redesigned projects are not eligible for refunds or deposit transfers.
