Sarah Nehama
Sarah Nehama grew up in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She attended Boston University, earning a degree in Art History, and continued her education in Boston at the historic North Bennett Street School, where she learned jewelry making and repair. After finishing school, Sarah worked for several jewelry galleries in Boston until she began her own company, selling her one-of-a-kind designs to both galleries and private clients. While initially working primarily in silver, Sarah enrolled in the NYC school run by Cecilia Bauer, and learned the ancient techniques of high karat gold granulation. Her work now consists of pieces in both silver and 22K gold.
In 2002, Sarah moved to Los Angeles, where she had a studio and showroom open to the public, and continued to participate in juried shows, gallery trunk shows, and private sales. She lived in LA for four years, moving back to Boston in 2006. She currently resides in Jamaica Plain, MA. and markets her jewelry through galleries and juried retail shows. Sarah also has a strong interest in antique jewelry, and in 2007 began volunteering at the Massachusetts Historical Society, helping to catalog their extensive collection of mourning jewelry for online reference.
Sarah says, “I create my designs around the gemstones, as they inspire me. I hand-select all my stones, and work with many world-class cutters and gem dealers. Every piece is one-of-a-kind and is fully hand-fabricated. My metal is sterling silver or rich 22K gold, often embellished with granulation and textured with a glittery finish. My wish is to create for the wearer a timeless yet powerfully present object of adornment. There is no greater compliment for me than someone wearing and loving a piece they bought from me. Nature never ceases to amaze me, and it is this natural beauty that I seek to present and share with others through my jewelry.”
