Caring For Your Ring: A Beginner's Guide

So you are newly engaged. It is a time of celebrations and joy, until you realize your new responsibility of taking care of your partner. Your fiancé? No, we are actually referring to that stunning ring resting on your left hand. We all go into marriage preparing to care for our future husbands or wives, but how many brides-to-be know how to care for their diamonds?  Many sites recommend a combination of steps to protect your beloved ring, so read on to find out how to keep it in the best of conditions.

Accidents happen so the first step in ring care is insurance. MarthaStewart.com recommends either adding the ring to your homeowners insurance or taking out a separate policy, just to be safe. Click here to find out more about the process.

Much like you would go to the dentist or doctor every 6 months, your ring also needs a regular checkup to ensure everything is secure. Read more about the pros of this step here

General everyday precautions are also recommended. Taking you ring off (and storing it somewhere safe) while gardening, cleaning or swimming can help to prevent a frantic search for it later on, or common wear and tear, like scratches or loose prongs. Educate yourself about this step here

    April Birthstone: Diamonds

April: the month of blooming flowers, greening grass, sunshine and diamonds! The birthstone for this springtime month, is none other than a girl's best friend, the diamond.

April babies enjoy a rich history behind their birthstone, which is thought to increase balance, clarity and inner strength. One of the most durable substances on the planet, diamonds were considered in ancient times, to have been formed with lightening bolts or to be tears of the gods. There were widespread rumors that heating the stone and taking it to bed would cure ailments stemming from the brain and crippling the body.

The stone comes in a wide range of different colors and shades, making it a wonderfully unique gift to give anyone born in this month. Why not gift a pink diamond ring? A pair of yellow diamond earrings? Or a set of white diamond studs. Whatever your loved one's style, there is a diamond to fit it! Shown is the infamous Hope Diamond.

    2014 Oscar Jewelry Winners

The 86th Red Carpet was rolled out Sunday and as is tradition, the biggest and best names in the business showed up and showed off. The path to the show was certainly lined with all that glitters from sparkling diamonds to yellow gold and opals, so sit back and enjoy our favorite pieces from the Oscars.

    Julia Roberts

Roberts rocked a lacy peplum but our eyes were drawn to the stunning Bulgari earrings inlaid with baguette, emerald and round cut diamonds. The variety of shapes gave the pieces a unique, Art Deco type quality. She topped the look off with a 1955 statement bracelet, also Bulgari.

    Cate Blanchett

The Best Actress winner blew us away with a pair of Chopard drop earrings featuring 62 white opals, set with a white diamond pave in 18K white gold. The stones, brilliant in the light, were a wonderful way to branch out from traditional red-carpet diamonds.

    Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita nailed the yellow gold trend Sunday, with a little help from jeweler Fred Leighton. The Best Supporting Actress winner kept things simple, with a diamond and gold headband, and yellow gold rings and bracelets inlaid with opals, turquoise and diamonds.

    Charlize Theron

By far one of the best-dressed (and accessorized) attendees of the evening, Charlize paired her dramatic Christian Dior Haute Couture gown with an elegant Harry Winston diamond pendant necklace worth a reported $15 million dollars. The piece featured a 31-carat emerald cut diamond flanked by a diamond cluster and containing a jaw-dropping 155 stones.

    Amy Adams

We love a good rebel, and Amy delivered on Sunday, straying from traditional diamonds and rocking a look all her own. The American Hustle actress accessorized her navy blue Gucci gown with Tiffany’s earrings featuring cabochon rhodochrosite, lapis lazuli, turquoise and diamonds, a Tiffany’s 18K yellow gold and fancy yellow diamond bracelet and a ring set with fire opal, pink sapphire and yellow diamonds also courtesy of Tiffany and Co.

    2014 Engagement Ring Trends

A new year brings with it new trends and new engagement rings. Here are our favorites for 2014 and they're all available in our Wedding Collection.

    Solitaire Rings

Solitaire Settings are making a comeback in a big way and have been spotted on the hands of celebrities recently. Lauren Conrad shared the happy news of her engagement with a photo of her Tiffany Solitaire Ring set with a round brilliant diamond. Even under the weight of a 15 carat stone, Kanye West selected a Solitaire setting for the ring he presented to Kim Kardashian late in 2013. The solitaire is simple and elegant, allowing your center stone to take the spotlight.

    Yellow Gold

Yellow Gold is back! With many brides favoring classic styles, both yellow and rose gold seem to have a cult following. Look for this trend to stick around: as the jewelry market continues to trend towards yellow gold, women will look to complement the trend in their engagement rings.

    Sapphire Stones

With some help from a certain royal (ahem, Kate Middleton), Sapphires still have a firm grip on the engagement market.  Not only are they typically less expensive than the traditional diamond, they are also a stunning choice for brides who want an alternative center stone.

    East- West Settings

The East-West setting trend makes any center stone look larger and works with oval stones, emerald cuts etc. It’s also eye catching and sure to have people stopping to look.

    Unique Colored Center Stones

For the bride who wants to stray from tradition, uniquely colored center stones are the way to go. Right in line with the Sapphire trend, the engagement market is seeing a higher demand for different colored center stones and tinted diamonds such as Laura’s Rose Diamond Solitaire Ring below.
